The 144 condominiums represented by the Ski Trails Condominium Association are on or adjacent to the Northstar Resort's extensive ski, mountain bike, and hiking trails making the Ski Trails Condos an ideal year round home for outdoor enthusiast.

Northstar is a former lumber site once owned by the Douglas Lumber Company of Truckee.  In 1967, Douglas was acquired by the Fibreboard Corporation of San Francisco for its timber resources.  Over time, Fibreboard's president, George Burgess, and his successor, Melvin Levine, realized that Northstar's northern exposure and consistent snowfall was ideal for development as a year round family resort.  The Northstar ski hill opened in the winter of 1972 with 5 chairlifts. The Ski Trails Condominiums were completed 1n 1974.
